Preventing Frailty

To prevent frailty, most of the research indicates that it should be a combination of healthy eating and staying physically active. For information about healthy eating (preventing malnutrition), see Preventing Malnutrition and Dehydration page in this blog.
To help prevent frailty, remember to take a BREAK:

Be active
Remain social
Eat well
Ask for help
Keep learning!

See our Infographic about frailty here.

Being physically active is important -There are lots of ways to stay active that don’t involve going to a gym! Here are some times for staying active:
- Set realistic goal, for example, walking for a short time numerous times per week
- Plan activities that are both fun and enjoyable (e.g. biking, dancing, swimming)
- Check out community exercise programs near you (meet new people and stay active!)
- Speak to a physiotherapist about setting up a home exercise plan

Remember: Always speak with your healthcare professional before beginning any new exercise plan.
